Halls of Torment PS5 – A Devilishly Good Roguelite for Console Players

If you love surviving endless waves of enemies and building insanely powerful characters, Halls of Torment is a game you’ll want to keep your eyes on. Developed by Chasing Carrots, this indie gem is finally bringing its dark fantasy chaos and 90s-inspired visuals to consoles. I've been checking it out on PS5 ahead of the console launch.

What Is Halls of Torment?

Halls of Torment is a horde survival roguelite that mixes the fast-paced simplicity of Vampire Survivors with the loot and build depth of classic Diablo II. Each run drops you into monster-filled dungeons where your goal is simple: survive, grow stronger, and destroy everything in your path.

Key Features:

  • Short, action-packed runs (about 30 minutes each).

  • Deep character and build customization.

  • A nostalgic, pre-rendered 90s visual style.

  • Meta-progression that rewards you even after defeat.

The game looks and feels like an old-school ARPG; with chunky sprites, haunting backgrounds, and a loop that’s dangerously addictive.

PS5 Release

After gaining strong praise on PC, Halls of Torment is set to launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on October 28, 2025, alongside a big update and DLC pack titled “The Boglands.”

If it’s not yet showing up in your region’s PlayStation Store, don’t worry, rollout dates can vary. Keep an eye out for the official listing closer to launch.

EDIT 10/22/2025:
It's been confirmed that Halls of Torment will be joining the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate lineup on launch day. Fantastic news!

Why You’ll Love It on PS5

1. Addictive Gameplay

Each run is intense, but more methodical in regard to movement. You’ll constantly unlock new items, perks, and abilities, making every round feel different.

2. Deep Build Crafting

Whether you want to focus on raw damage, AoE magic, or defense-heavy tank builds, Halls of Torment gives you tons of freedom to experiment.

3. Nostalgic Visuals

The game’s 90s-style graphics and eerie tone make it stand out from the neon chaos of most modern roguelites. It’s retro without feeling outdated.

4. Incredible Value

Expect a budget-friendly price tag and hours of replay value (With the Steam version, as of right now, is available for $6.66 *heh*). It’s one of those games that’s easy to start and hard to put down.

5. Constant Updates

The developers are keeping things fresh with free updates and new content like The Boglands DLC, which adds new enemies, maps, and characters.
