Playtonic recently released the demo for Yooka Re-Playlee, an enhanced version of the 2017 Yooka Laylee. I admit I never played the original, nor its sequel, so I went into this with no knowledge of the story.
When you first launch the demo, you get a cute, storybook introduction about our heroes and how they ended up in their predicament. After the brief intro, your adventure begins with you exploring the first stage. Controlling Yooka, you learn the ins and outs of your abilities, whether it's the basic spinning attack, high jump, or rolling for those steep climbs. After clearing a few enemies, you encounter a magical book, aptly named "One Book." It claims its power is that anything written in it, becomes the truth. The supervillains, Capital B, and Dr. Quack (my favorite), want this book for obvious reasons. So they design a giant vacuum, to suck up all the books in the region, with the "One Book" dispersing its pages all over the world so it doesn't fall into their hands. I absolutely adored these scenes.
As for the design, Yooka is such a beautiful game. It gave us a look at some caves, vibrant forests, along with your home at Shipwreck Creek. Again, small sample size, but if the rest of the game is anything like this, I'll be extremely happy.
Yooka Replaylee is out Oct 9th on PS5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series Consoles, and PC.
