Halo: Campaign Evolved – Unreal Engine 5 Remake Coming to PlayStation and Xbox in 2026

A Modern Reimagining

The rumors were true; Halo is back, and it’s looking better than ever. For the first time in franchise history, Master Chief is landing on PlayStation. That alone is a seismic shift.

But this isn’t just a remaster. Halo: Campaign Evolved is a full-scale reinvention of the original game, preserving its heart while introducing new gameplay, visuals, and story elements.

Reflecting on the Past

If you’ve been following 343 Industries, now rebranded as Halo Studios, you’re probably familiar with the ups and downs of Halo Infinite. The multiplayer had its moments, but the lack of post-launch campaign content was, in my opinion, the most glaring misstep. Still, we move forward.

As content updates slowed, whispers of a switch from the Slipspace Engine to Unreal Engine 5 began to surface. Turns out, those rumors were spot on. With today’s announcement of Halo: Campaign Evolved, we’re finally getting a glimpse of what the future of Halo might look like.

The Big Reveal

At the Halo World Championship, Halo Studios dropped three videos:

  • A cinematic reveal trailer
  • A gameplay showcase centered on the Silent Cartographer
  • A 13-minute gameplay demo

That demo looked phenomenal on Xbox Series X. The environments were vibrant, the gunplay felt tighter and more responsive, and hearing that iconic music again? Instant nostalgia.

No Multiplayer And That’s Okay

Some fans are understandably disappointed by the lack of competitive multiplayer. But honestly, I get it. With the studio transitioning to a new engine mid-development, this campaign remake offers a smart way to gather feedback on Unreal Engine 5 without overcommitting resources to a full multiplayer suite.

Looking Ahead

I’m genuinely excited for PlayStation players who’ve never experienced Halo. This is their chance to dive into one of gaming’s most iconic universes. The visuals are stunning, the gameplay looks sharp, and now we just need a price.
